Teller appeared in a number of short films between 2004 and 2010. After completing his studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2009, Nicole Kidman cast him in his first major film role, Rabbit Hole (2010).
When Teller was in high school, he had a starring role in a stage production of the musical Footloose. To add to his resume, he also starred in the remake of the same name in 2011. Together with Shailene Woodley, he appeared in two 2013 films: 21 and Over and The Spectacular Now.
In Whiplash, the second film by Damien Chazelle, Teller portrayed a drummer who tries to win over his violent jazz teacher (J. K. Simmons) (2014).
