During his term in government, he accomplished a number of noteworthy things. Elway was raised in Port Angeles, Washington, and subsequently attended and played football for Stanford University. The Baltimore Colts selected him in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft, but he decided not to sign with them, forcing a trade to the Denver Broncos.

Throughout his career, Elway was selected for nine Pro Bowls and was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1987. Under his direction, the Broncos went to five Super Bowls, winning two of them in 1997 and 1998. Elway, a renowned businessman and administrator who retired from football in 1999, eventually became general manager and executive vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos.
