Because of his direct involvement in the Denver Broncos’ three Super Bowl victories—two as a player in 1996 and 1997 and one as general manager in 2015 with Peyton Manning as their quarterback—John Elway’s name will always be associated with the franchise.

After more than ten years in the front office and 16 seasons as a player, John Elway and the Broncos have mutually agreed to part ways.

The team’s former quarterback served as a consultant for the organization up until the end of the last campaign, but the new ownership in Denver didn’t see him playing a significant part in the near future, so they chose against handing him a new deal.

The Broncos won five AFC West championships and made two Super Bowl appearances when Elway was their general manager and senior vice president of football operations. They also had a perfect record in games for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, going 1-0.
