The Indianapolis Colts chose defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft despite having more pressing roster needs at the time.

The Colts believe they have a versatile and explosive addition to their defence, despite the fact that there have been some mixed reviews because of their need at offensive tackle and the fact that Odeyingbo is recovering from a torn Achilles.

Along with four other draft picks, Odeyingbo already signed his rookie contract last week. Here’s how Over The Cap breaks it down.

The No. 54 overall pick agreed to a four-year, $6.18 million contract that included a $3.45 million guarantee. Odeyingbo’s $1.852 million signing bonus and his guaranteed base salary for the first two seasons make up the guaranteed money.

Odeyingbo probably won’t start contributing to the Colts until the second half of the season. He tore his Achilles in January, so he’s probably going to end up on the PUP list.

The Colts won’t press him to return sooner even if he does.
