Radio and television engineers frequently ran into this issue with Scully’s play-by-play during Dodgers home games, which caused the sound to reverberate through the seats.

The New York Yankees made Scully an offer in 1964 to take over as their primary play-by-play commentator in place of the recently departed Mel Allen. He was so well-liked in Los Angeles by 1976 that Dodger fans named him the team’s “most unforgettable personality” throughout its existence.
