The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sought to clarify and justify the reason behind his artistic use of George Floyd’s murder to speak to the Electoral Commission (EC) and the government on the compilation of a new voters register.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the impressionable Sammy Gyamfi stood by his post and said he finds no problem with it.

“The potential victims of this grave injustice, which is an attempt to disenfranchise them, are screaming for breath; they are screaming for their inalienable rights to vote,” he said.

He also alleged that the EC and the government are on a mission to disenfranchise eligible Ghanaian voters in a frantic effort to rig the December general elections.

Sammy Gyamfi has come under severe fire after he shared what many describe as ‘an irresponsible’ artwork on George Floyd’s murder for political reasons.

Reacting to his critics and their criticisms, the 30-year-old lawyer said he has no problem with those who find his post offensive or irresponsible but he is not ready to pull it down since he sides with the message the photo conveys.

“I have issues with those who just don’t disagree but are insulting me. Those are the people I want to address,” he added.

“The EC wants to suppress people and take their rights so no amount of blackmail or insults can get me to retract my statement because I won’t,” he said.

It will be recalled that Floyd, 46, died after being arrested by police outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Footage of the arrest on May 25 shows a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Mr Floyd’s neck while he was pinned to the floor.
