The Juárez Cartel was taken over by Mexican drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes (born December 17, 1956) after the death of Rafael Aguilar Guajardo, his superior.

Amado Carrillo was known as “El Seor de Los Cielos” because he flew a large number of planes to smuggle drugs (The Lord of the Skies).

Amado was well known for funding this fleet by utilizing Colombia as a means of money laundering. Carrillo was born to Walter Vicente Carrillo Vega and Aurora Fuentes in Guamuchilito, Navolato, Sinaloa, Mexico.

The leader of the Guadalajara Cartel, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, also known as “Don Neto,” had a nephew named Carrillo. Amado started his career in the drug business with the help of his uncle Ernesto. Later, he enlisted the aid of his siblings and ultimately, Vicente José Carrillo Leyva.

Is Amado Still Alive Or Dead?

No, he died in a hospital in Mexico in July 1997 after receiving extensive plastic surgery to change his appearance. Both Mexican and American police were keeping an eye on Carrillo during his final days.
