In 34 nations, the most recent being Andorra, with a combined population of about 1.35 billion people (17% of the world’s population), marriage between same-sex couples will be permitted and recognized as of 2023.

Same-sex couples can legally register their relationship under the Civil Union Agreement, which gives them rights like those granted to married couples in terms of inheritance and health care decision-making.

Is gay marriage legal in Chile?

Since 10 March 2022, same-sex unions have been permitted in Chile. Sebastián Piera, the president of Chile, declared in June 2021 that his nation would support legislation to sanction same-sex unions.

The legislation was approved by the Chilean Senate on July 21, 2021, and the Chamber of Deputies on November 23, 2021. A mixed commission was established to discuss the bill as a result of disagreements over some of its components.
