The 2022 Commonwealth Games, also known as Birmingham 2022 or the XXII Commonwealth Games, are an international multi-sport competition for Commonwealth of Nations participants that will be held in Birmingham, England, from July 28 through August 8, 2022.

Birmingham was announced as the host city on December 21, 2017, making it England’s third time hosting the Commonwealth Games after London 1934 and Manchester 2002, and the United Kingdom’s seventh Games after London and Manchester, Cardiff 1958, Edinburgh 1970 and 1986, and Glasgow 2014.

 

Is India participating in Commonwealth Games 2022?

From July 28 to August 8, 2022, India will compete in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. India is competing in the Commonwealth Games for the 18th time.

The Indian team of 106 men and 104 women competing in 16 sports was announced in July 2022. India will not compete in three-on-three basketball, beach volleyball, netball, or rugby sevens. Athletics, para powerlifting, swimming, and table tennis are among the sports in which Indian para-athletes compete.

The flagbearers for the country’s opening ceremony were hockey player Manpreet Singh and badminton player P. V. Sindhu. At 14 years old, squash player Anahat Singh became the youngest Indian athlete to compete in the Commonwealth Games. Sunil Bahadur, 45, was the oldest member of the Lawn Bowls contingent. Sanket Sargar won India’s first medal of the Games, a silver medal in weightlifting.
