A professional footballer from Argentina named Lisandro Martnez (born January 18, 1998) mostly plays centre-back for Manchester United of the Premier League and the Argentina national team. Martinez worked at Newell’s Old Boys before starting his career at Defensa y Justicia in 2017. He joined Ajax in 2019 and played 120 times for them over three seasons, winning two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup. He was recognized as Ajax Player of the Year for the 2021–22 campaign. Martnez represented Argentina at the under-20 and under-23 levels before making his senior international debut in March 2019. He participated for Argentina on squads that won the Copa América of 2021 and the Finalissima of 2022.

In Gualeguay, Entre Rios, Martnez spent some time playing for Club Urquiza, Club Libertad, and Newell’s Old Boys. He made his professional debut for Newell’s in the club’s loss to Godoy Cruz in the club’s final game of the 2016–17 season.

A deal had been negotiated with the Eredivisie team Ajax, according to Defensa y Justicia on May 17, but it was still pending a physical. Martnez was provided to the Argentine team by Ajax for €7 million. Ajax announced on May 20 that the medical procedure had been finished and the transfer would happen on July 1. He agreed to a four-year contract with a one-year option. Even though he took part in games with Quick ’20 and AaB in June, he didn’t join the squad formally until July. He made his professional debut in the 2019 Johan Cruyff Shield match between Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, which Ajax won by a score of 2-0.
He was chosen as the game’s MVP in his second Eredivisie match, a victory over FC Emmen.

Martnez’s first Ajax goal came on September 28 in a 2-0 victory over FC Groningen at the Johan Cruyff Arena. He scored again against Utrecht in November, finishing a season that the COVID-19 pandemic ended early. On September 20 at home against RKC Waalwijk, Martnez scored his third Ajax goal in his first match of the 2020–21 season.
