Most notably, Lightfoot held the positions of chair of the Chicago Police Accountability Task Force and president of the Chicago Police Board.

Lori Lightfoot ran for mayor of Chicago in the 2019 election for that position. She participated in a runoff against Toni Preckwinkle, which she won on April 2.

Following graduating from law school, Lightfoot joined the Mayer Brown legal team as a practicing lawyer and represented a varied range of clients.

The Northern District of Illinois assistant US attorney was where she started her career in public service.
