British politician Matthew John David Hancock, born on October 2, 1978, served in the Cabinet from 2015 to 2016 as the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General. Hancock made public his appointment on October 12, 2021, as the UN Economic Commission for Africa’s Special Representative for Financial Innovation and Climate Change. In this unpaid role, Hancock advises the Commission on the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on the African economy. On October 16, four days later, the UN declared that the offer had been withdrawn.

Hancock introduced the Dyslexia Screening Bill to Parliament in December 2021 to make sure that every child is tested for dyslexia before they graduate from primary school. Hancock announced on November 1, 2022, that he would be a contestant on the 22nd series of the British reality television show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, which would be filmed while Parliament was in session. The Conservative Party suspended Hancock’s whip, effectively removing him from their parliamentary group but keeping him as a party member. He will sit in the House of Commons as an independent. “I want to raise the profile of my dyslexia campaign to help every dyslexic child unleash their potential, even if it means taking an unusual route through the Australian jungle,” Hancock explained.
