Is Phil Read Still Alive Or Dead?

Britain’s Phil Read, the first motorcycle rider to win world championships in the 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc grand Prix categories, died on Thursday aged 83, his family said. Read, who competed in the world championship from 1961 to 1976, was a seven-time world champion and an eight-time winner at the Isle of Man TT races.

Read gave Yamaha their first world title by winning the 250cc class in 1964. He also won the following year, in 1965. A new four-cylinder 250cc bike was introduced in 1966 by Yamaha. For 1968, the Yamaha factory wanted to be Read to focus on the 125cc title and his teammate Bill Ivy on the 250cc.
