He was a loyalist of A. K. Antony. His tenure as TDB president had ended when then CPI(M) led the LDF government, in a contentious move, brought an ordinance reducing the term of the board to 2 years.

Prayar Gopalakrishnan is dead. He died on 4th June 2022. He died of a heart attack. Prayar had suffered cardiac arrest while he was traveling on Saturday.
He breathed his last at a private hospital in the State capital of India.
