Her family relocated to Hyderabad shortly after she was born, where she and her younger sister Anam were raised in a Sunni Muslim home.

Anam is married to Mohammad Asaduddin, a cricketer who is the son of Mohammad Azharuddin, the former India national cricket team captain.

Ghulam Ahmed, India’s former cricket captain, and Asif Iqbal, Pakistan’s former cricket captain, are distant relatives.

Her father as well as Roger Anderson has been her coaches.

In Hyderabad, she went to Nasr School. She went on to St. Mary’s College in Hyderabad, where she received her bachelor’s degree.
