Terrence Stephen McQueen was born on March 24, 1930, to a single mother. He had a difficult childhood, he was unable to adjust to school due to dyslexia and had an abusive stepfather. McQueen left home at the age of nine and started running with a street gang, committing acts of petty crime. However, he made a change after being remanded in the California Junior Boys Republic.
In 1952, McQueen studied acting at Sanford Meisner’s Neighborhood Playhouse and made his acting debut in the play, A Hatful of Rain. His first major role was alongside Paul Newman on Somebody Up There Likes Me in 1956. He went on to star in major hits, solidifying himself as a star.
