After completing his studies, Tom started his career as a model and appeared in several commercials and advertisements. He then transitioned to acting and landed his first major role in the television series “The Rockford Files,” where he played the character of private investigator Lance White.

He became popular, with his portrayal of the private investigator Thomas Magnum in the popular television series “Magnum, P.I.” The show aired from 1980 to 1988 and earned him numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
