James Edmund Caan was an American actor who was best known for his roles in “The Godfather”, “Misery”, and “Thief”.

Caan was born on March 26, 1940, in New York City, U.S. Caan grew up in Sunnyside and was educated in New York City and attended Michigan State University.

Caan studied at New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre for five years.

Caan began appearing in plays such as La Ronde before making his Broadway debut in “Blood”, and “Sweat and Stanley Poole”. Caan’s made his first appearance on television in an episode of Naked City. He landed his first starring role in Howard Hawks’ auto-racing drama Red Line 7000.

In 1971 Caan returned to the screens with the TV Movie Brian’s Song. Caan portrayed Jimmy the Con in the film This Thing of Ours in 2003.

Caan played Will Ferrell’s estranged book publisher in the enormously successful family Christmas Comedy Elf, the same year, and auditioned for and won the role of Montecito Hotel/Casino president “Big Ed” Deline in Las Vegas.

Caan announced that he would not return to the show for its fifth season to return to film work on February 27, 2007, he was replaced by Tom Selleck. Caan was the chairman of an internet company in 2010.

He returned to film work with “A Fighting Man (2013)” and “The Outsider (2014)”. In 2019, he starred in Carol Morley’s crime drama “Out Of Blue”.

Caan supported Donald Trump during the 2016 United States Presidential Election.

James died on July 6, 2022, at the age of 82, in Los Angeles. So far there is no news on how he died.
