Australian politician Jane Furneaux Garrett passed away on July 2, 2022, on 16 March 1973.

From 2010 to 2018, she served as the Labor Party’s representative for Brunswick in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.

In 2018, she switched to the Victorian Legislative Council to represent Eastern Victoria.

Garrett ran for ALP National President on the Left’s slate of candidates.

In December 2011, Garrett was elected to serve as the nation’s junior vice president.

Garrett held the position of shadow cabinet secretary before the 2014 state election.

Garrett was named as the Minister for Emergency Services and the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming, and Liquor Regulation in the newly-elected Andrews Labor administration after winning re-election in 2014.

Following a dispute between the Country Fire Authority (CFA), the United Firefighters Union, and the Victorian government over an enterprise bargaining agreement, Garrett resigned from the Andrews Ministry on June 9, 2016.

Garrett was assaulted by a lady in Carlton on August 15, 2016.

Former minister and Victorian Labor MP Jane Garrett passed away at the age of 49 from cancer.

Garrett announced her resignation from politics in December of last year, and she was scheduled to leave Parliament in the state election in November.
