Jane was first elected as the State Representative for Brunswick in November 2010. She was later appointed Minister for Emergency Services and Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming, and Liquor Regulation in 2014 after winning re-election.

For six years, Jane worked as an attorney at Slater & Gordon, where she focused on discrimination and labour law.

What type of cancer did Jane Garrett have?

The type of cancer that led Jane Gareth to her early grave was breast cancer. In November 2016, Jane disclosed that she had undergone a successful operation on her breast cancer and will be away from parliament for some months in order for her to recover better.

Cancer later resurfaced in 2022 and caused her death. She died at the age of 49 on 2nd July.

Premier Daniel Andrews has offered Jane’s family a state burial and funeral as a tribute to her “fierce advocate for fairness and equality”
