Gerald Joseph Blavat was a disc jockey and performer who was born in the United States on July 3, 1940. He was also known as “The Geator with the Heater” and “The Big Boss with the Hot Sauce.” Blavat played a significant role in the radio’s extensive promotion of old music. Italian and Jewish parents gave birth to Blavat in South Philadelphia.

He became well-known locally in the Philadelphia area by organizing live dances, and he finally launched his own independent radio program. He introduced many artists to a large audience on this show in the 1960s, including The Four Seasons and The Isley Brothers.

On the original Bandstand on WFIL-TV in 1953, Blavat made his television debut alongside Lee Stewart and Bob Horn. In 1956, he organized a cross-country tour for Danny and the Juniors, and from 1958 to 1959, he was Don Rickles’ valet. He made his radio debut on January 15, 1961, on WCAU in Camden, New Jersey. By 1963, his program had been syndicated in Atlantic City, Trenton, Pottstown, Wilmington, and Allentown.

Philadelphia Music Alliance Hall of Fame inducted Blavat in 1993 as a special award. He was added to the Museum of Radio and Records’ permanent collection after his 1998 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Jerry Blavat Cause Of Death

Blavat died early on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the age of 82 from complications associated with the neuromuscular disease myasthenia gravis.
