Joe Burrow has secured a significant new contract with the Bengals. The quarterback has inked a five-year extension valued at $275 million, with an impressive $219 million guaranteed. This landmark agreement, reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, establishes Burrow as the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

On an annual basis, Burrow’s contract sets a new standard, as he is set to earn an average of $55 million per season throughout this deal. It’s worth noting that while Burrow claims the title for the highest annual salary, Patrick Mahomes holds the record for the most total money in a deal, having signed a 10-year contract worth $450 million with the Chiefs back in 2019.

Despite a concerning non-contact calf injury during training camp, all indications suggest that Burrow will be ready to lead the Bengals in their Week 1 matchup against AFC North rivals, the Browns. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor expressed confidence in Burrow’s recovery, stating, “He looks good. I think it’s wise to take it day-to-day right now.”

Joe Burrow is taking a confident approach to his return to the field. When asked about his status, the quarterback stated on Wednesday, “I’m ready to go. I’m expecting to play.” He remained tight-lipped about his contract but expressed a strong desire to remain with the Bengals for the long term, saying, “That’s the last thing I’m thinking about. I’m thinking about beating the Browns right now. … It comes when it comes. I’m not worried about it.”

Burrow also emphasized his commitment to the Bengals, expressing his desire to stay with the team throughout his career, stating, “This is where I want to be. This is where I want to be for my whole career. We’re working towards making that happen.”

At the age of 26, Joe Burrow was the top overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, following his national championship win with LSU. The Bengals made it to the Super Bowl in the 2021-22 season, although they ultimately fell to the Rams in the championship game.
