John Douglas Torode is a celebrity chef and TV host of Australian and British descent born on July 23, 1965.
Torode was born in Melbourne, Victoria, the youngest of three boys, although he lived in Maitland, New South Wales, with his brother Andrew and his grandmother, who taught him to cook, from the age of four (after his mother died) until 10.
His father and brothers resided with him in Edithvale, Melbourne, at the time, however, his father was usually gone from home due to work.
In the 1990s, he relocated to the United Kingdom and began working for the Conran Group’s restaurants. In 2005, he began presenting a redesigned MasterChef on BBC One, after originally appearing on ITV’s This Morning.
He is a restaurateur who previously owned the Luxe as well as Smiths of Smithfield.
He’s also published a few cookbooks, some of which he co-wrote with Gregg Wallace, another MasterChef judge and presenter.
