Jose Eduardo dos Santos, an Angolan politician, was born in Luanda, Portuguese Angola, on August 28, 1942. The Angolan politician achieved fame as the country’s president, which he held from 1979 to 2017.

Because of his position as president, Jose Eduardo dos Santos also served as the FAA’s supreme commander.

The People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the group that dominated Angola since it attained independence in 1975, is also known for having him as its president.

Only President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, who assumed office less than two months earlier, has served as president for longer in Africa than Eduardo dos Santos.

The late president of Angola spoke Portuguese fluently as well as Spanish, French, and Russian.

At the age of 79, Jose Eduardo dos Santos passed away on July 8, 2022. He passed away in Barcelona, Spain, after a long illness that was not made public.
