Under Real’s management, Chivas finished as runners-up in the 2010 Copa Libertadores. He was introduced as Chivas USA’s next head coach on May 29, 2013.
He was announced as the new head coach of Club Guadalajara on November 25, 2013. He was fired following the campaign. He was once again fired in June 2014 despite the club having offered him a new position as the Director of Sports Development in Guadalajara’s youth program.
Néstor de la Torre, the newly elected president of Guadalajara, hired Real as the new technical-tactical coordinator for the youth school in October 2014.
