Kanye West was born on June 8, 1977, in Georgia, and began writing poetry at the age of five before transitioning to rap. Kanye begged his mother, a college professor, to pay for some studio time when Kanye West was 13 years old. West received a scholarship to Chicago’s American Academy of Art in 1997 after graduating from high school and began taking painting classes. Kanye West transferred to Chicago State University to study English shortly after. Kanye West quickly realized that his hectic class schedule was impeding his musical work, and at the age of 20, he dropped out of college to pursue his musical dreams. This infuriated his mother, who was also a university professor.
West began his weekly “Sunday Service” orchestration on January 6, 2019, which includes soul variations of both West’s and others’ songs and is attended by a number of celebrities, including the Kardashians, Charlie Wilson, and Kid Cudi. West debuted a new song, “Water,” during his “Sunday Service” orchestration performance on Coachella’s second weekend.
