Fat Friends author Kay Mellor died at the age of 71. The Leeds native died abruptly on Sunday. He also wrote for ITV’s Girlfriends, Band of Gold, and The Syndicate.

“It is with profound grief that we announce the untimely and sudden departure of our beloved friend, mentor, and colleague Kay Mellor on Sunday 15th May 2022,” said Kay’s TV production company, Rollem Productions.

We have lost a great legend and a phenomenal talent. At this time, we ask that you respect the privacy of your family and friends.

“Kay wrote plays and worked on Coronation Street in addition to creating the award-winning children’s drama Children’s Ward.

In 2010, she was awarded an OBE for her work on BBC One’s women’s football show Playing The Field.
