Jackson was reared in Miami, Florida, and was born in Washington, D.C. She attended Harvard University for her undergraduate studies and law school, where she worked as an editor for the Harvard Law Review.
She completed three clerkships before beginning her legal career, one of which was with Associate Justice Stephen Breyer of the US Supreme Court.
Until she was promoted to the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 2021, she worked as a district judge in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
