Leody Taveras Salazar, an outfielder for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB), was born in the Dominican Republic on September 8, 1998. He was signed by the Rangers in 2015 as an international free agent, and he debuted in Major League Baseball in 2020.
Taveras inked a $2.6 million bonus deal with the Texas Rangers in July 2015 as an international free agent. In 2016, he made his major league debut with the Dominican Summer League Rangers. Later that year, he was promoted to the Arizona League Rangers and the Spokane Indians. He played for 73 games in all for the three teams, batting.271 with one home run, 33 RBIs, and 18 base steals.
Baseball America had him as the Rangers system’s top prospect prior to the 2017 campaign.
Taveras played for the Hickory Crawdads during the 2017 season, when he recorded a.249 batting average, eight home runs, 50 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases.
