Zelarayán was born in Córdoba, Argentina, and played youth football with Las Estrellas, Universitario, and Atalaya before graduating from the Belgrano development program. On April 25, 2012, he made his senior debut as a second-half substitute for Lucas Parodi in a 2-1 away loss to Rosario Central in the Copa Argentina.
Zelarayán made his Primera División debut on March 1, 2013, replacing Jorge Velázquez in a 2-0 away loss to Newell’s Old Boys.
His first professional goal came on April 7, the following year, when he scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 home victory over River Plate.
Zelarayán’s contract was extended until 2018 on December 5, 2014, after he had become a regular starter.
