Before turning 11 and joining Gillingham, Freeman competed in sports at Charlton Athletic. When he made his first-team Gillingham debut at the age of 15, he became the youngest player to ever compete in the FA Cup. Freeman joined Arsenal in January 2008 and frequently participated in the under-18 and reserve teams for the organization.
