He became the first cyclist from Denmark to win the men’s World Championship road race title, he also won the men’s road race at the 2019 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire, England.

Pedersen’s contract with Trek-Segafredo was extended through 2018 in August 2016. He was listed on the starting lineup for the 2017 Giro d’Italia during his neo-pro season.

However, he won the title of Danish national champion, after winning the time trial, he also won the Tour du Poitou Charentes overall. Pedersen won the Danmark Rundt overall in September 2017.

He came in second at the Tour of Flanders in April 2018 after a determined breakaway effort. With just over 50 kilometres (31 miles) left, Pedersen attacked ahead of the Koppenberg, and he was accompanied by Dylan van Baarle (Team Sky) and Sebastian Langeveld (EF Education First-Drapac p/b Cannondale). Although, he was strong enough to hold off world champion Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) and the pursuing peloton to become the youngest podium finisher in forty years.
