Maria Telkes had a mind like none other and is widely considered one of the best scientific minds the 20th century was blessed with and that is a huge statement especially as it is a century that gave us many innovative minds and inventors. Maria was born on the 12th of December 1900 in Hungary specifically Budapest and her parents were Aladar and Maria Telkes.
She was exceptionally brilliant right from the onset and had her first degree (B.A in physical chemistry) at the very young age of 20 before proceeding to obtain her PhD four years later at the University of Eötvös Loránd.
Her brilliant mind her took her to the United States where she worked as a biophysicist a year after obtaining her PhD and after 14 years of work in the US became a citizen in 1939.
She was nicknamed ‘Solar Queen’ due to her invention of a solar distillation device.
