Marshall Applewhite Jr. was the founder of the Heaven’s Gate religious movement and the brains behind that organization’s mass suicide in 1997.

The Cults rented a home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, in October 1996. They produced two video messages that year in which they gave their viewers one more chance to leave Earth. They became aware of Comet’s Hale-approach Bopp’s about the same time. Applewhite now thought that Nettles was traveling with them in a spacecraft that was following the comet.

Marshall claimed that a government plot was trying to keep people from learning about the boat and that the ship would take them to an empyrean location. Additionally, he asserted that his departed followers would also be taken by the vessel, a belief that was similar to the pretribulation rapture doctrine held by Christians.

Marshall Applewhite children: Meet son Mark Applewhite

Mark Applewhite is the only son of the well-renounced American religious leader Marshall Applewhite. Mark came to the spotlight after he came out to beg relatives who died as a result of his father’s mass suicide coordination. Mark Applewhite then remarked, “I am disgusted by the things that have come about as a result of the things that my father and others in the cult did.”

Mark went on to say that, his father, who advocated severing ties with family, hadn’t spoken to him in more than a decade. He was also unaware of his father’s conviction that after leaving their physical bodies, a UFO hiding behind an impending comet would take him and his followers to another level of existence.
