After purchasing land in Granby that lacked a sewage infrastructure, Heemeyer got into a fight with the municipal officials there, namely on the fines he had to pay for breaking city health rules.

The citations were issued to him because the sewage from his company was dumped in an illegal manner rather than being connected to the city’s sewer system.

First, he struck the mayor’s residence, the town hall, and the library. Then, he went out arbitrarily to get revenge for the imagined wrongs he had suffered.

In the instance of the local daily News, the editor who had previously published Heemeyer’s letters of complaint fled out the back door as Heemeyer’s bulldozer ploughed through the front.

Nobody was reported dead, Only Heemeyer, who shot himself when his cumbersome bulldozer toppled into the Gambles store’s basement.
