Unfortunately, poor investments and eight marriages caused him financial hardship throughout his life. He twice filed for bankruptcy, and his entire estate was worth $18,000 at the time of his passing. He had a lot of medical debt and unpaid taxes at the time of his death.
He was the only child of Kansas City, Missouri native Nellie W. Carter and Scottish vaudevillian father Joe Yule.
Rooney came to Hollywood with his mother when he was four years old as a result of his parent’s divorce. He appeared in the short “Not to be Trusted” when he was six years old.
He later received small parts in movies like “The Beast of the City” and “The Life of Jimmy Dolan” while he was just entering his 30s. Rooney first enrolled at the Hollywood Professional School before moving to Fairfax High School.
