Mikhail Gorbachev was the final president of the Soviet Union and a politician from both Russia and the Soviet Union. He presided over the Supreme Soviet’s Presidium from 1988 to 1989.
On a cooperative farm, his father worked as an agricultural mechanic. When he was 11 years old, the Germans invaded his neighbourhood, causing three years of misery during the Second World War. His health has been deteriorating recently, and he’s been in and out of the hospital. Although his cause of death has not been disclosed, international media reported in June that he had been hospitalised after being diagnosed with a renal condition.
