Mikhail was born on March 2, 1931, and passed away on August 30, 2022. As the leader of the country from 1988 until 1991, he held the positions of Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet from 1988 until 1989, Chairman of the Supreme Soviet from 1989 until 1990, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1985 until 1991, and President of the Soviet Union from 1990 until the country’s dissolution in 1991.
Mikhail also served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1985 until 1991. In terms of ideology, Gorbachev was an early supporter of Marxism and Leninism, but by the early 1990s, he had shifted his allegiance to social democracy.
Mikhail Gorbachev’s cause of death
On August 30, 2022, when he was 91 years old, Gorbachev passed away at the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow. According to the hospital, he passed away as a result of a “serious and lengthy sickness.” But the actual ailment of his death was not revealed.
Beginning in the year 2020, he was continuously monitored by medical professionals until the time of his passing. In accordance with the terms of his will, Mikhail Gorbachev will be laid to rest in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow, close to his late wife Raisa, who passed away in 1999.
Gorbachev outlived both Alexander Kerensky and Vasily Kuznetsov, the nominal head of the USSR, who both reached the age of 89 before passing away. This makes Gorbachev the Russian leader with the longest record of longevity in history.
