Perine’s football journey began in Jackson, Alabama, where he honed his skills as a multi-sport athlete at Hendrickson High School in Texas. As a standout running back for the Hendrickson Hawks, he displayed his talent by amassing impressive rushing yards and touchdowns, setting the stage for his future in college football.

The University of Oklahoma became Perine’s collegiate home from 2014 to 2016. During his time with the Oklahoma Sooners, he made an immediate impact, setting records and earning accolades for his rushing prowess. His freshman year was particularly memorable, as he shattered the NCAA FBS single-game rushing record with a remarkable 427 yards in a single game.

Perine’s success at Oklahoma earned him recognition as a top running back prospect, leading to his selection in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. In his rookie season, he made strides as part of a running back committee, displaying moments of promise and potential.

However, the NFL is known for its fluid rosters, and Perine’s journey took him to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Miami Dolphins, and back to the Bengals for a second stint. He had his moments of contribution, showcasing his versatility as a running back and contributing to the team’s offense.

It was in Cincinnati, during his second stint with the Bengals, that Perine began to make his presence felt more prominently. He displayed his rushing abilities and had impactful games, earning a two-year contract extension in 2021.

In the 2021 season, Perine continued to support the team as a valuable backup to Joe Mixon, making key plays, including a crucial touchdown reception in the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, in 2023, Samaje Perine finds himself with a new team, the Denver Broncos. Signing a two-year contract, he brings his experience and versatility to the Mile High City, where he hopes to make a meaningful impact on the field.
