During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Zambrano was a successful coach in Major League Soccer. According to the 2015 MLS statistics and record book, his.587 regular season winning percentage is second only to Bruce Arena’s.604.
Zambrano was born in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil. He was an attacking midfielder who made his professional debut in the Ecuadorian First Division with UniĆ³n Deportiva Valdez. He emigrated to the United States from Ecuador in 1980 to attend Chapman University, and he then played two seasons in the Major Indoor Soccer League with the Los Angeles Lazers.
