It is disgusting what we all saw on television a few nights ago regarding the actions of law enforcement personnel that resulted in Mr. Tyre Nichols’ unfortunate and untimely death, according to Omega Psi Phi. Tyre should have returned home unharmed and safe, with the opportunity to skateboard once more.
We expect law enforcement to uphold the highest safety and humane standards while protecting lives and serving our communities. Unfortunately, the accused (now-former) officers’ aggressive behavior contradicts what we witnessed. Let there be no doubt about our determination to hold all public servants accountable for their actions, and especially to hold these accused former cops accountable, as we all walk this path of grief and mourn with Tyre’s family.
We strongly condemn their actions and demand that our political leaders act quickly to put an end to the unnecessary killing of residents of our communities by law enforcement personnel. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Nichols’ family and friends, and we ask for prayers on behalf of the entire Memphis community. In these trying times, may God grant us all courage and solace.
