Since the organization’s founding, over 750 undergraduate and graduate chapters have been chartered. Omega Psi Phi was the first fraternity to be founded at a historically black college.
Since the organization’s founding in 1911, Omega Psi Phi has had as its objective “to attract and build a strong and effective force of Handsome men dedicated to its Cardinal Principles of masculinity, education, endurance, and uplift.”

No, Demetrius isn’t a member of Omega Psi Phi. Demetrius, a 30-year-old man, previously worked for the Shelby County Corrections Department in Memphis, Tennessee. Demetrius was detained in 2023 for suspected offences he allegedly committed while working for the Memphis Police Department in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. He was hired by the department in August 2020.
Tyre Nichols, a citizen of Memphis, was reportedly injured at a traffic stop on January 7, 2023, by Demetrius Haley and other Memphis Police Department officers. Tyre Nichols was later declared dead on January 10, 2023.
However, according to Tadarrius Bean’s LinkedIn profile, he was originally in charge of the Omega Psi Phi Eta Zeta chapter at the University of Mississippi.
