A cartoonist and designer named Paul Coker Jr. passed away on July 23 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the age of 93. Despite the fact that some people might not be aware with Coker’s name, many will be since several of his animated films have gone on to become Christmas classics. Coker served as a production designer for Rankin/Bass specials including Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

 

During this time, he assisted in the creation of the characters Kris Kringle, Winter Warlock, and Burgermeister Meisterburger. In addition to his television work, Coker contributed regularly to the parody magazine MAD, earning him a spot in their “Usual Gang of Idiots,” a term for the MAD crew. With this magazine, Coker parodied several popular concepts and properties, such as Star Trek, Jurassic Park, and Sabrina: The Teenage Witch.

Although he was childless, he had stepdaughters with Rosemary Smithson, Lee Smithson Burd and Carol Burd.
