Pawel Piewak is a Polish politician, social worker, and former leader of the Warsaw Jewish Community. On May 5, 1959, he was born in Warsaw, Poland. Piewak was the son of well-known writers in their own right Jan Piewak and Anna Kamieska. After completing his philosophy studies at the University of Warsaw, he received a PhD from the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Piewak has participated in a range of societal and political endeavours during his time in office. In 2006, he was chosen to be the chairman of the Jewish Community of Warsaw, a post he held up until 2018.
Pawel Piewak adhered to the Democratic Left Alliance and served as a councillor for the City of Warsaw. In addition to his political and societal involvement, Pawel Piewak is a well-known author and editor of numerous periodicals, including “Ludzie miasta: Stolica” (City People: The Capital) and “Kultura miejska.” (Urban Culture). He also contributes regularly to the prestigious Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.
