He was known to have established the Melanesian Foundation in the year 1980 which was known to be a non profit organization that was responsible for investing in remote communities.
On the then-proposed advice of the Papua New Guinea government, Peter Barter was once more known to have received a knighthood in 2001 during the New Year Honors.
