Judge Smith stated at the start of the hearing that her office had received hundreds of calls, voicemails, and letters, in this case, all of which will be put in the court file as public record.
Despite this, the state invited Michael Murphey, Murphey’s son, to testify. Michael, who was forced to speak in court, stated that he does not believe his mother would want Vaught to serve any time in prison.
