In 1982, he found Krating Daeng, or Red Bull, a Thai energy concentration owned by Thai Blendax licensee Chaleo Yoovidhya. Two years later, the duo invested $500,000 in Red Bull, each acquiring a 49 percent ownership, with Yoovidhya’s son receiving the remaining. It was agreed that Mateschitz would be in charge of the corporation. It first opened its doors in Austria in 1987.
Over the next few years, Red Bull continued to develop globally and became well-known for marketing stunts centered on sponsoring extreme sports and events. The Flying Bulls are an aviation stunt team that was created in 1999 in Salzburg, Austria to supplement Red Bull’s sponsorship of endurance events, Formula One, and numerous extreme sports. Mateschitz is a licensed pilot who preserves a collection of classic planes at Salzburg Airport.
In 2005, the firm purchased the Red Bull Formula One racing team, which won three consecutive world championships between 2010 and 2012.
