Robert T. Brockman was born in 1941 and died on August 5, 2022. He was a multibillionaire American businessman who previously served as the CEO of the Reynolds & Reynolds software company in Ohio. He was accused of operating a $2 billion tax evasion scheme in October 2020.

Brockman and his brother Thomas David Brockman were raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. His mother Pearl was a physiotherapist, and his father Alfred Eugene Brockman owned a gas station.

Brockman attended Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, for a brief time before earning his summa cum laude degree from the University of Florida in 1963. He was also a member of the university’s business honor society.

In September 2020, a 39-count indictment against Brockman was submitted to the Northern District of California. Brockman was charged with running a 20-year fraud to avoid paying taxes on about $2 billion in income. Charges included failure to disclose assets held abroad, wire fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion. Brockman entered a not-guilty plea and was freed after posting a $1 million bond. Brockman was subject to an IRS assessment in which evading taxpayers were the target. He made a $1.45 billion offer in March 2022 to lift IRS liens on his real estate and other assets.

Judge George C. Hanks Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas found him mentally fit to stand trial in May 2022.

Brockman invested in Vista Equity Partners, whose founder Robert F. Smith narrowly prevailed in a non-prosecution agreement with the US Department of Justice, deciding to pay a fine of $139 million in October 2020 for failing to pay roughly $200 million in taxes. Smith’s company was founded by Brockman.

Brockman and Smith were both named in the Pandora Papers revelations, which surfaced the offshore holdings of hundreds of politicians, businesspeople, and celebrities, in October 2021.
