Ron Rivera is recognized around the league as a teacher with an inherent ability to create his squad around his players’ abilities. Rivera, a two-time NFL Coach of the Year, took over a 2-14 Carolina squad as a rookie head coach in 2011 and led the team back to prominence in 2015, when Carolina won its second NFC Championship, third consecutive NFC South division victory, and competed in Super Bowl 50.

Carolina concluded the season 17-2, with home playoff, wins against Seattle in the Divisional round and Arizona in the NFC Championship game. Rivera was brought to Carolina for his defensive acumen, and he has not disappointed, as the Panthers finished in the top ten in yards allowed four years in a row from 2012 to 2015, joining Seattle as the only team to do so.

Before settling in Marina, California, Ron Rivera lived in Germany, Panama, Washington, and Maryland. He was a three-sport standout at Seaside High School in Seaside, California, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. Rivera and Stephanie, his wife, have two children, Christopher and Courtney.

Stephanie formerly worked as an assistant coach with the WNBA’s Washington Mystics. Rivera’s family has impacted his identity. Rivera, the son of a United States Army officer and the second youngest of four sons, learned about the chain of command and many of the concepts he teaches and demands from his players at an early age.
