Ronald Eugene Rivera, popularly known as “Riverboat Ron,” was born on January 7, 1962. He is an American football head coach, and currently serves as the head coach of the National Football League’s Washington Commanders (NFL). He was an All-American linebacker for the Golden Bears while he was a student at the University of California, Berkeley, back in the early 1980s. He spent nine seasons with the Chicago Bears after graduating, he was also a part of the 1985 squad that won the Super Bowl XX, and was selected by them in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft.
Rivera started his coaching career with the Bears as their quality control coach In 1997. Before returning to the Bears in 2004, as their defensive coordinator, he spent two years as the linebackers coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. And in the next season, he helped linebacker Brian Urlacher win the Defensive Player of the Year Award, and was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the PFWA. The team participated in Super Bowl XLI in 2006, also Rivera attended a few head coaching interviews and in 2007, he began teaching linebackers for the San Diego Chargers. After a year, he was promoted to defensive coordinator.
